Good Weekend Talks: Single, female, homeless – our shameful crisis

Welcome to Good Weekend Talks, a weekly opportunity for our audience to luxuriate in a long-form story from the magazine, read by an actor and followed by a discussion with the writer, an editor and an expert.

In this episode, we take a look at a poignant February 2020 cover story by freelance writer Sharon Bradley – Single, female, homeless: Australia’s shameful crisis – exploring why older women are the fastest growing cohort of homeless people in Australia. For many, it seems an unexpected life shock tipped them into destitution they couldn’t have fathomed.

Sharon will then be joined in conversation by Good Weekend deputy editor Anne Hyland, along with a special guest: Glen-Marie Frost, the PR queen who went from society doyenne to public housing tenant. Frost was profiled by Good Weekend senior writer Jane Cadzow in May – Rolling on: How a ’90s PR queen learned to accept a simpler life – and what that can teach us all – and is now part of an initiative to alleviate homelessness in women.
