‘Miraculous’: Cats president proud of rebuild on the run

Geelong have managed to rebuild on the run since their 2011 premiership win, so it is a point of pride that they now find themselves in their fifth preliminary final since that flag, club president Colin Carter says.

Carter said the criticism of the club for their finals and home-and-away record in recent years overlooked the fact this was a completely reconstructed side from the team that won the Cats’ last premiership nine years ago.

Only four players remain on the list now from the 2011 premiership side – Joel Selwood, Harry Taylor, Tom Hawkins and Mitch Duncan. Gary Ablett was at the Suns in 2011 but played in the 2007 and 2009 premiership sides.

“I am so proud of the club, of the players and coaches for being back in the preliminary final,” Carter said.
