Qld coroner considers joint inquest into two deaths in custody

Queensland’s deputy coroner is considering holding a joint inquest into the deaths of Indigenous woman Aunty Sherry Tilberoo, who died in the Brisbane Watchhouse in September, and another woman who died in the Southport Watchhouse in 2018.

Ms Tilberoo, 49, was found unresponsive in her cell on the morning of September 10, after being arrested on property and drug charges the weekend before.

Vlasta Wylucki, 50, died in the Southport Watchhouse on March 1, 2018. A statement from police at the time said Ms Wylucki suffered a medical episode and could not be revived.

Her death was reported to the coroner and an internal investigation, overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission, was conducted by Queensland Police ethical standards command.
