Severe storms fizz out after Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan put on alert

Two severe thunderstorm cells that barrelled towards the south-east Queensland coast on Thursday have not quite packed the punch the Bureau of Meteorology anticipated they would.

But the storms knocked out power to about 7000 homes in the state’s south-east, including almost 1500 buildings in Birkdale in Redland City, nearly 2000 in Brisbane’s Highgate Hill and about 1500 in Wynnum West in Brisbane’s east, Energex says.
