‘People are going to come at us’: Thunder teens work to avoid second-season slump

Sydney Thunder teenage duo Phoebe Litchfield and Hannah Darlington unsurprisingly have a thing or two in common. But this year’s season has forced them to bond over one thing in particular – the fear of the second-year slump.

Litchfield and Darlington came into the 2020 season off the back of stellar debut seasons and were both lauded by some of the best in the game.

Litchfield, 17, finished off last season with an average of 20.77 and a strike-rate of close to 100, while Darlington, 18, ended her year as the team’s leading wicket-taker. It wasn’t until the pair finished their first seasons as WBBL players that they were able to absorb the enormity of their achievements – along with the expectations they had just placed upon themselves.

As a result, Darlington asked Heat-turned Thunder teammate Sammy-Jo Johnson for advice in the pre-season.
