AFL trade period day five as it happened: Treloar to have medical with Dogs, three-way trade goes through

We had much more action today than we have on any other day of trade period so far. Here’s a summary of what we know:

  • Michael Gleeson reports that Adam Treloar will meet with the Bulldogs today and undergo a medical. Sources said the Bulldogs were keen to assess his hamstrings, given Treloar’s injury history. The club want to be prepared and informed should a trade develop.
  • Jake Niall reports that GWS have been going through the list of players that Geelong are willing to offer in a trade for Jeremy Cameron. As yet, none have met the mark.
  • Aliir Aliir has completed a medical at Port Adelaide, with the Power interested in recruiting the defender from the Swans.
  • Gold Coast’s Peter Wright has joined Essendon in exchange for a future fourth-round pick.
  • The Demons have traded Mitch Hannan to the Bulldogs in exchange for a future third-round pick.
  • Braydon Preuss has been traded to the Giants. Melbourne get pick 31 in return.
  • A three-way trade between Brisbane, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs has sent Stefan Martin from Brisbane to the Bulldogs and Lachie Young from the Bulldogs to North Melbourne. The Lions also sent pick 70 to North in exchange for pick 63.
  • Adelaide and Melbourne have completed a pick swap. The Crows get Melbourne’s future second- and fourth-round picks. Melbourne get picks 33 and 50 in exchange.

Stefan Martin has become a Bulldog as part of a three-way trade with the Lions and North Melbourne.

The deal is:

  • The Lions trade pick 70 to North Melbourne in exchange for pick 63.
  • The Lions trade Martin to the Bulldogs.
  • The Bulldogs trade Lachie Young to North Melbourne.

Adam Treloar will do a medical when he meets with the Western Bulldogs today.

Sources said the Bulldogs were keen to assess his hamstrings, given Treloar’s injury history.

The club want to be prepared and informed should a trade develop.

As reported earlier today by Michael Gleeson, the Dogs remain of the view that they could trade for Treloar unconnected to any decision on Josh Dunkley, who has asked for a move to Essendon.

The Dogs were keen to meet with Treloar to get a clearer picture of whether there is merit in progressing talks about a possible trade for the star Magpie, who has been squeezed out at Collingwood.

GWS have been going through the list of players that Geelong are willing to offer in a trade for Jeremy Cameron.

As yet, none have met the mark, according to club sources.

Brandan Parfitt has been ruled out of bounds by the Cats from early in the discussion.

The Cats had offered picks 15 and 20, with the Giants wanting picks 13 and 15 if and when the discussions turn to picks.

Sources say the Western Bulldogs will meet with Collingwood’s midfielder Adam Treloar.

The Dogs remain of the view that they could trade for Treloar unconnected to any decision on Josh Dunkley, who has asked for a move to Essendon.

Aliir Aliir has completed a medical at Port Adelaide, with the Power interested in recruiting the defender from the Swans.

Sources familiar with the situation said the medical was done on Monday, and follow up scans were being looked at today.

As reported by Daniel Cherny, Braydon Preuss has been traded to the Giants. Melbourne get pick 31 in return.

The Giants gained pick 31 as compensation for Aidan Corr, who joined North Melbourne as a free agent.

Preuss was traded to the Dees two years ago from the Roos in a swap for Dom Tyson and pick 62.

Giants footy boss Jason McCartney welcomed Preuss to the club.

“We’re excited to welcome Braydon to the Giants for at least the next three seasons,” McCartney said.

“We were in the market for a ruckman and earmarked Braydon very early as someone who could add significantly to our list.

“We were thrilled that he chose the Giants for the next chapter of his career and it’s a great endorsement for our club.

“Braydon has had a tremendous apprenticeship under star rucks Todd Goldstein and Max Gawn and is ready to take his game to the next level.”

Sources with knowledge of the situation say the Giants are set to gain fringe Melbourne ruckman Braydon Preuss for pick 31. Preuss struggled for opportunities at the Demons but will be GWS’ main ruckman.
