Jack Leach and James Anderson took seven wickets between them as England overwhelmed India by 227 runs to win the first match of the series on Tuesday.
Leach took 4-76 while Anderson returned 3-17 as India were bowled out for 192 runs in 58.1 overs during the second session of the fifth day.
Captain Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 72 off 104 balls, including nine fours. But he found minimal support as England pressed their advantage home.
It was England’s sixth away Test win in a row, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The second Test will also be played in Chennai, starting Saturday.
