The Gold Coast Titans could have up to $10,000 less in the salary cap to throw at Cameron Smith as the NRL investigates the club’s handling of the David Fifita trespassing incident over Christmas.
The NRL is investigating a gift purchase made by the club for the family involved, which saw Fifita arrested after allegedly trespassing at a Gold Coast property before being released without charge.

Fifita was invited to the house by a woman, but upon entering was confronted by her father who called police. Fifita proved that he was invited to the property and was released with a caution by Queensland police.
The NRL was made aware of the gift – believed to be worth between $3000 and $10,000 – following a News Corp report on Tuesday.
