Inside Running: Zaaki hot favourite on mega Stradbroke day

Queensland’s “Stradbroke season” will come to a head on Saturday with the running of its feature race day at Eagle Farm.

Prizemoney of $1.5 million is on offer for the 1400-metre group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, with Kingsford-Smith Stakes winner Vega One leading the betting at $6.50.

Wild Planet and The Harrovian, who finished second and third respectively to Eduardo in the Doomben 10,000, sit on the next line of betting, with Mr Quickie, Tofane and Apache Chase among the other contenders.

A Racing Victoria ban on horses owned by Sean Buckley will see one of his leading horses – Flying Award – sent to Adelaide to run on Saturday.

The multimillionaire businessman has been banned from nominating horses to race in Victoria while RV investigates claims of embryo transplantation, which is strictly forbidden in the thoroughbred industry.

Flying Award, formerly trained by Danny O’Brien and now with Leon and Troy Corstens, last ran in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and will run at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
