“Our earnings are all down the drain, and we’ve got families to raise and to pay our bills,” Mr Stowers said.
“Our people are too laid back, we just take it and then you get comments from other people who say ‘that’s the way it is, you’re not gonna change anything, just suck it up’. But we’ve got a voice and we are a part of the community.”
Mr Stowers said there had been a few COVID-19 infections in the construction industry such as Hanson Concrete in Greenacre, but that had nothing to do with tipper truck drivers and did not justify shutting down the entire industry.
Mr Stowers said the convoy was mostly tipper and dog trucks but some freight truck drivers also came to lend their support.
He said no further protests were planned at this stage. However, the Facebook post has a lot of comments from people who could not make it at short notice but would like to join a bigger protest in the coming days.
