Power star Orazio Fantasia says he was withdrawn from the game in the final term after feeling a “click” in his troublesome knee but he thinks he will be fit for the preliminary final in two weeks’ time.
Fantasia kicked four goals and also took a blow to the nose from the hip of teammate Todd Marshall.
“It feels nice now I have had a little bit of ice on it,” Fantasia told Channel Seven post-game.
“It’s a little sore. I had to manage it throughout the season, the back end. I felt a bit of a click, I guess. I’ve felt that before.
“I was going to be probably a bit of a liability in trying to help and defend. When you have got a fresh guy there that helps.“
But with a week off, Fantasia is confident he will be fit to play in the preliminary final.
“Yes, I think I will be fine with the break,” Fantasia said.
Port Adelaide are a win away from the AFL Grand Final while Geelong’s premiership hopes look to be fading fast after the Power scored a 43-point win at Adelaide Oval tonight.
The Power’s relentless pressure and quality ball movement was too much for a Cats side who made last year’s grand final and wanted to go a step further this season but now look in danger of being knocked out in next week’s semi-finals when they face the winner of Sydney Swans and GWS Giants who play an elimination final tomorrow.
Orazio Fantasia kicked four goals while Aliir Aliir shone early with his intercept marks and rebound play from defence.
Mitch Duncan had 32 disposals in his return from injury for Geelong while Travis Boak had 32 disposals for the Power.
Channel Seven are reporting the Power may end up being able to host the preliminary final in Adelaide but the final decision has yet to be made.
Powell-Pepper is putting on a show taking a two-grab mark at the top of the square and kicking the goal. He has two goals and six touches in this last term.
Power lead 86-43 with a minute to go.
Sam Powell-Pepper is a fan favourite at Adelaide Oval and the medical sub has come on with 12 minutes to go and found a way to get on the scoreboard kicking for goal from about 40 metres out with his kick just sailing over the last defender and through the goals.
The Power will have lots of competition for spots in the preliminary final but with a stack of touches in this last term, you would think the veteran utility would be a strong show to at least hold the medical sub role in two weeks time, if not come into the side itself.
Power lead 80-42 with four minutes to play.
Power coach Ken Hinkley has removed Orazio Fantasia from the game with leg and nose issues and brought medical sub Sam Powell-Pepper into the game for the last 12 minutes.
The Cats have kicked another goal via Tom Hawkins, he has two in his 300th game, but the Power are still in charge.
Power up 72-41 with 12 mins to go.
Orazio Fantasia has bled for the cause tonight but he has also kicked truly in front of goal and he has opened the final term with his fourth major.
Fantasia took a blow to the nose from teammate Todd Marshall in the third term but he has come out firing to start the final term.
Joel Selwood has replied for Geelong with a mark and goal but the Power are on their way to the preliminary final, it’s just a matter of how much the margin is.
Cats lead 70-29 with 18 mins to play.
Port Adelaide didn’t finish its work in that third quarter but they still hold a commanding lead heading into the last term against Geelong.
The Power have been superb around the contests and the Cats have neither had the strength or the cohesion to move the ball away from the contests and into their forward line.
The big question for the Power will be whether they can convince the authorities to let them have a preliminary final at home in two weeks time.
Even with only a modest crowd, the Power have such an advantage at Adelaide Oval.
As good as the Power have been around the contests, they haven’t finished their work this quarter with several shots either missing the mark or falling short.
The Power’s pressure and teamwork looks good enough to win the flag but they will have to finish their work against whoever they run into in the preliminary final.
They have kicked one goal, three behinds this term and kicked one out of the full.
Orazio Fantasia is off to get treatment on a cut nose which was bleeding noticeably.
Power lead 64-29 with a minute until 3QT.
