Child dies after off-road buggy rolls in Gippsland

A six-year-old girl has died after an off-road buggy she was travelling in with a man and six other children rolled in Gippsland on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators have been told five girls, two boys and a man aged in his 30s were in the buggy when it rolled in a paddock on Dennison Road in Rosedale, 25 kilometres east of Traralgon, just after 4pm.

The six-year-old was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

A four-year-old girl was also airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Five other children were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man in his 30s sustained an arm injury and was taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital by ambulance in a stable condition, according to Ambulance Victoria.

Police officers guarded the scene of the crash overnight, with the Major Collision Investigation Unit returning to the scene on Sunday to continue the investigation.
